Spotlight piece on Karen, General Manager at The Prince of Wales

With over 40 years in hospitality, and a career that’s covered everything from professional kitchens to planning weddings, and everything in between, it’s safe to say that Karen knows the right mix of ingredients it takes to bring a pub to life.

Since stepping into a role as General Manager here at The Prince of Wales, Karen has been steadily re-establishing The Prince of Wales as the jewel of Esher’s West End. With community at the very heart of everything she does, Karen has been reaching out, building relationships, and creating connections with the welcoming energy that is her trademark.

From her days as a chef, where homemade desserts were her signature, to leading teams that deliver first-class service, Karen blends her unique mix of expertise and can-do spirit with warmth and care.

With a loyal team behind her, including Assistant Manager Becky, who’s worked alongside Karen for a decade, there is a renewed sense of calm and structure that runs through the pub. The locals call her “a breath of fresh air”, and that’s reflected in the atmosphere, light and inviting.

And there’s plenty to discover here. With live music every two weeks on a Friday and Sundays, a regular book club, and live sport on the way. From cosy nooks perfect for small gatherings and groups to the all-year-round garden, complete with an outdoor fire pit and bar, there is a place and space for all your gatherings. Karen’s favourite spot? The private dining room, a designated room that’s calling out for you to claim for your special gatherings.

And with dishes like Karen’s favourite pork T-bone, served with a Burford Brown egg and crisp hash brown, plus fresh takes on pub classics, there’s plenty to tempt. Add to that plans to connect with local favourite Garson’s Farm this autumn, and The Prince of Wales is fast becoming the place to gather, graze, and indulge. So why not make it yours, too?
